Finding out...

The day I found out I was pregnant will be a day that sticks in my memory forever!

Here's how it played out...

It was Saturday 26th February 2011 and Adam had been in Melbourne since Wednesday on business. I was due to pick him & his colleague up from the airport around 1pm, just in time for my 30th Birthday party which was due to start at 4pm that afternoon - cocktails at Bungalow 8 in the City! Here's the beautiful invitation I sent out for what I thought was going to be an afternoon of drinks, drunkenness & dancing!

*** TOO MUCH INFORMATION (TMI) WARNING ***

It may come as a surprise to some of you but we've actually been planning on having a family since about August 2009 and since then I've been keeping track of my 'cycles' religiously so I knew I would be due for a visit from my 'monthly friend' around the 24th Feb... 24th Feb came and went and so did the 25th so I got on the e-mail to my trusty friend Moo (who was about 4 months pregnant at the time) and asked her what I should do...

My conundrum was this - my cycles vary between 26 and 31 days so it could well have just been that my 'monthly friend' was just running a little late - this had certainly been the case in previous months - but then I really didn't want to risk going out on my Birthday and drinking heaps of cocktails if there was any possibility whatsoever that it had been our lucky month

To test or not to test, that was the question!

Moo - bless her cotton socks - suggested I enjoy my 30th and test early the following week - after all, it would be so early on in the pregnancy that a few drinks wouldn't hurt as long as I didn't get absolutely smashed. I liked this theory but in hindsight I think Moo just knew from experience how frustrating it can be watching everyone around you get merry when you know full well you can't with a baby on board!!

Me being me though, the impatient little madam that I am, couldn't wait and decided I would test the following morning (before the party) so that I could put my mind at ease. It was actually a 'left-over' test that Moo had from when she first found she was pregnant that was sitting in my cupboard... lucky I reckon!

So I was up and at 'em on Saturday morning and around 7am unwrapped the test with shaky hands and did the obligatory POAS (pee on a stick)... I turned my back for maybe 30 seconds to a minute then picked it up and lo and behold... PREGNANT!!!

AAGHHHHHH!!!!!

Even better was that it was one of these swanky digital tests which not only sure that you're pregnant but also how far along you are... a minute or so later the magical digits '2-3' popped up.. here's a pic:-

I was seriously in shock, completely over the moon, couldn't believe Adam wasn't there for me to tell and also couldnt' believe that this had happened on the day of my Birthday party!!!

My next thoughts were...

a) I had to eat a proper breakfast now I had a baby on board; and

b) how on earth was I going to tell Adam?!

What a morning!!!

Rosie x
