Telling Adam!

Once the test result had finally sunk in, I then started wondering how on earth I was going to tell Adam - I wanted to do it face to face rather than over the phone (I knew he'd had a heavy night the night before - proven by the 4am phone-call I had received) but it would have to wait until we were alone later that afternoon as we were giving his colleague a lift home from the airport.

So I got dressed and grabbed the dog and went for a walk to think it through and try to absorb this amazing news... it was a beautiful morning and Rocky was as good as gold - it was almost as if he 'knew' - he even stopped at one point and sat between my legs with his head resting against me - super cute:-

Whilst we were walking I got round to thinking about when Little R would have been conceived and after a few glances at my 'Fertility Friend' iPhone app I worked out it was during the week before Valentine's Day. And I hadn't gotten Adam a Valentine's present... yet!

I also realised that Adam was struggling with ideas as to what he should get me for my Birthday so I decided that the positive test result could kill two birds with one stone - that is, be a belated Valentine's gift for Adam & the best 30th Birthday a girl could ever wish for.

First things first though, I got back to my original thought of having to eat properly now I was eating for two so I took the car to the carwash cafe & treated myself to a bacon & egg roll (how fun it was asking for the egg to be cooked well, please) and a skim latte*

* I know you're supposed to cut down on the caffeine in pregnancy but apparently it's safe to have one a day...! *

I have to say it literally tasted like the best breakfast I've ever eaten and even though I hadn't had any symptoms up until that morning - I swore I felt a bit seedy - morning sicky - afterwards! Prob more likely that I'd wolfed it down too quick - ha ha!! Here it is - captured for the blog:-

After I'd finished up at the carwash cafe I hot-footed it to Borders where I picked up a copy of 'What To Expect When You're Expecting' and also Jools Oliver's 'Minus Nine to One' - which is an excellent, honest & candid book for any expectant Mums to read - I thoroughly recommend it:-

Then it was back home again to get ready for my party and then off to the airport to pick up Adam + colleague.

In the end I decided to wrap up the What to Expect book & also the positive pregnancy test (wrapped in plastic so no chance of anyone having to touch any wee!) in some Valentine's paper and I put a little card in the package saying "Thank you for giving me the best 30th Birthday present a girl could ever wish for"

We finally got to Adam's office in North Sydney where we were to change and leave the car before heading into the City for my party - not the most romantic setting I must say...

When we got there I said to Adam "oh, I've got you a belated Valentine's present" and handed over the package feeling nervous & excited.

At first when he opened it he was like "oh thanks - a book" and I was hopping around "look at the other bit, look at the other bit" which was followed by "oh... so you're pregnant?" - not exactly the emotions & fireworks you might expect but this is Adam... the chilled, laid-back man that I've come to know & love - so it was fine!!!

As you can imagine the rest of my day - my Birthday party - didn't go quite as expected but missing out on a few cocktails is a SMALL price to pay for the wonderful little human being I got instead!
